Film Analysis

The movie I decide to watch and write about is the movie Amazing Grace.  I chose this movie because I did my research paper on slaves and this movie was in that category.

The director of the movie is Michael Apted.  Some of the main cast consist of Ian Gruffudd, Rufus Sewell and Michael Gambon.  This movie took place in 1797, and was about a great english crusader who wanted to abolish slavery because of his christian beliefs. One of William Wilberforce friends throught the movie was his mentor John Newton who is was a slave ship captain who turned to God to become a priest and wrote the hymn named “Amazing Grace”. William Wilberforce never let his health stop him to help elimante slavery.

I have alot respect for William Wilberforce becuase he was a guy who was really ill and he put that aside to voice something he believed in, and that was to eliminate slavery.

This was a great movie and I would feel that everyone should see this movie because it really showed a person really fighting for what he believe in.

Puritan Poem

The world can be so cruel

because greed can make people so fooled

O lord what is the world coming too?

Why can people just get along and elimnate the hatred?

you give us laws to follow your way

but temptation and lust is always in are way

God please guide us and protect us from this world

so when the day you come to save us

we will have your faith with us.

Civil Religion

In class we discussed civil religion and it really opened my eyes on how important religion really is in America.  In early america history religion was what brought alot of people to America so they could practice there religion without being force to believe in something else. When people came over to America the main religion was Christanity. In class Dr. berg gave us an article by Robert Bellah in 1967  wrote the controversial article “Civil Religion in America” in which he discussed the belief that there are a number of a fundamentals each religion has that American society is based around.  When I read some of the article the one thing that catch my eye was when John Adams believe the revolution war was the same as civil religion because they were fighting to get there freedom and there freedom of religion.  Because the United states let us have freedom of religion people can choose any religion they want without going to jail or even getting killed.

I really enjoyed this topic in class becaus we had a chance to get evryone point of view about civil religion in america and also other countries.

Constitution

The American Costitution impact not just my life but everyone who is living in the United States.  Because it was used to create order for the colinies and the future of America.  The delegates to the constitutional convetion signed the Constitution in Philadelphia on September 17, 1787.  They were fifity five delegates who signed the the document and they were the best minds in the early times.  Some of the People who singed the declaration of Indepedence was Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Jond Adams, and alot others.  The American constitution is different from other constitutions because it was a document that showed america that we have finally earned are freedom

The Weeping Camel

Last Tuesday in my history class, my class and I went to a movie presentation that was very inspirational to me.  The movie was The Story of The Weeping Camel.  This movie inspired me when I saw the two young boys travel across the desert riding on camels to find a healing musician.  This was so inspirational to me because the mongolia family was so determine to find a way to get the mother camel to stop rejecting her white newborn calf.  Another amazing situation was seeing how hard the family work on a day to day basis and seeing how they had to work with there hands because they do not have electricity like most people.  For example, when the grandmother was making rope and other materials by using camel hair.  Also, by watching this movie it was amazing to see the mother camel rejecting her newborn, just because it was different then most camels.  I thought that was mind blowing to see because I never knew that animals would reject there own born just because they were different.  I compare this situation to humans when we are put in a similar situation if are newborn was different than most people, because some parents would also reject there own child just because they look or even act different.  Furthermore, this movie was a great story and I would encourage everyone to see this movie because I promise you would be inspired by watching this movie.  If you have seen the movie feel free to give me your opionion of The Weeping Camel.

Hateful Things-Jim Crow Museum

This past Tuesday in our history class, going through the Jim Crow Museum looking at different racist memorabilia was a mind blowing experience.  I believe this exhibit was very important for everyone to experience because, I think it opened everyone’s eyes on what a lot of African Americans went through in past history.  For example, one of the objects in the museum was portraying that all African Americans look like monkeys.  Another object that hurt me was seeing the picture where the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) was hanging black puppets with a shirt that said “this nigger voted” to send a message to African Americans not to vote. But I also recognize that Jews went through tough times also. In one of the objects it showed a signed that expressed No Niggers, No Jews, and No dogs allowed.  This was sad to see because they put blacks and Jews in the same category as animals.  Also, African Americans and Jews were unable to purchased there own house.  However, one of the most hateful artifacts that really offended me was the Ghettopoly board game.  This board game was considered to be similar to monopoly but an African American version.  In the board game, they included drugs, whores, drinking, and etc.  This really hurts to see because the person who created the board game said that he got all of his information from watching BET (Black Entertainment Television) and MTV (Music Television).  So, this shows that he got his first impression of an African American by watching Television.  This situation is sad because not every African American do all the negative things that are shown on television.  Nevertheless, I am very happy my class and I was able to get a chance to experience the Jim Crow museum, because it really showed us what a lot of minorities went thorough in America.  And even though, there is still racism still going on through out the world, I feel that we took a big step from our past history and hopefully we can soon eliminate racism from our world.
